Under 7 (yr 2) Football Team

In 2012 Devon FA and North Devon Youth League wanted to change the way we teach youth football with the aim of stamping out the 'win at all costs' mentality and concentrating on learning and enjoying the game.  This rule change means that there will be no competitive football fixtures or results published for the younger children.  The teams play outdoor on grass from September to November (not every week) and then again March to May, in a Round Robin format and will play indoor Futsal from December to February.

What is the Round Robin Format?

Round Robin format usually consist of 4 or 5 teams playing against each other on the same day in several short, small sided 7 v 7 games played outdoors (September to December and March to May). The reason for this is by removing the competitive element out of the game it takes the pressure off of the children so they can be developed, and enjoy playing the game in a more relaxed environment. Hopefully stamping out  the 'win at all cost' mentalility.

What is Futsal?:

Futsal is the FIFA/UEFA approved style of small-sided football it is played on smaller pitches and mainly played indoors. It is played between two teams of five players, one of whom is the goalkeeper. Unlimited subs are permitted, with a 4 seconds rule to release the ball. Futsal is also played with a smaller ball with less bounce than a regular ball. The surface, the ball, and the rules create emphasis on technical skill and ability in situations of high pressure, as well as ball control and passing in smaller spaces. This is an excellent way to develop football techniques that can be translated into the 11 -a-side game.
